Are roman blinds right for your home?

A roman blind sits somewhere between a blind and a curtain. Lowered, it is a flat panel of fabric that covers the window neatly. Raised, it stacks into soft folds at the top, adding the texture and warmth a roller blind cannot. That makes it a favourite for bedrooms, formal living rooms and dining areas. Lined fabrics also help insulate the window, adding a little extra comfort in winter.

Fabric is the whole point, so the range is wide, from linen-look light filtering fabrics that glow in the sun to heavier blockout fabrics for sleep. Roman blinds are less suited to wet areas, where fabric can absorb moisture, and to very wide windows, where a single blind gets heavy; panel glide blinds or curtains suit big openings better.
