Zip Screens in Newcastle & Lake Macquarie

Turn your alfresco into a room you use all summer. Zip screens run inside side channels, so they stay tight in a southerly and keep the sun, wind and rain out.

What are zip screens?

Zip screens are outdoor blinds whose fabric runs inside full-height side tracks, so they stay tight in the wind and keep out sun, rain and glare. They suit exposed alfrescos, decks and pool areas around Newcastle and Lake Macquarie. CBI Blinds measures and installs every screen, starting with a free in-home measure and a fixed written quote.

Zip screens are held in side tracks from top to bottom, so there are no gaps at the edges and nothing to strap down. They stay tight and quiet in the wind, keep wind-driven rain out and cut the heat and glare of the western sun, while sunscreen mesh lets you see straight through to the yard.

Every zip screen is custom measured for your opening and made in a fabric chosen for your view, privacy and sun. Choose spring, crank or motorised operation and group several screens to move together. Kyle brings the fabric range to your home, measures every opening and fits the screens himself, usually 3 to 4 weeks from measure to install.

Are zip screens right for your home?

The side tracks are what set a zip screen apart. The fabric edge is locked into the channel from top to bottom, so there are no gaps for the wind to catch and nothing to clip or strap down when a southerly comes through. That makes zip screens the go-to choice for alfrescos that face the weather, pool decks and patios you want to use in winter as well as summer.

Fabric is chosen for the job. Sunscreen mesh keeps the view and cuts most of the sun and glare, privacy fabrics block the view from neighbours and the street, and waterproof fabrics turn a covered area into a sheltered room when it rains. Operation can be spring, crank or motorised, and motorised screens can be grouped so a whole alfresco opens or closes together from a remote, wall switch or phone.

Compared with a straight drop awning, a zip screen is the more substantial product because of the tracks, and it holds its shape far better in wind and seals the sides against driving rain. If an opening is sheltered and you mainly want shade, a straight drop awning may be all you need. If it is exposed, a zip screen is usually the better investment.

At the measure Kyle checks each opening, where the tracks can fix, how the area faces the sun and wind, and where power can run for a motor. You choose fabric and colour from samples in your own light and get a fixed written quote on the day. Installation is usually 3 to 4 weeks later, and Christmas orders cut off in early December.

★★★★★

“We are over the moon with our new remote controlled ZipScreen blinds, after doing a complete renovation of our rear deck space we knew that the old outdoor blinds would not cut it. Suzy and Kyle were wonderful to deal with and the final results look awesome. We are looking forward to year round entertaining.”

FAQ

Zip Screens questions, answered

How much do zip screens cost?

Every opening is measured, so the price depends on size, fabric and motor. You get a fixed written quote at the free in-home measure, so what you are quoted is what you pay.

How long does installation take?

About 3 to 4 weeks from measure to install. Christmas orders cut off in early December, so book early if you want the alfresco sorted for summer.

Do zip screens work in strong wind?

Yes. The fabric is held in side tracks the full height, so it stays tight and does not flap or lift the way strapped blinds do.

Can I see through zip screens?

Yes. Sunscreen mesh lets you see out while blocking most of the sun and giving daytime privacy from neighbours and the street.

Can zip screens be motorised?

Yes. Motors run from a remote, wall switch or your phone, and several screens can be grouped to move together. Spring and crank options are available too.

Which areas do you cover?

Newcastle, Lake Macquarie, Maitland and the Hunter, and Port Stephens. Kyle comes to you for a free in-home measure and quote.

Zip screens vs straight drop awnings: which is better?

Zip screens lock the fabric into side tracks, so they suit exposed areas that get wind and rain. Straight drop awnings are a simpler, lighter option for sheltered patios, balconies and windows where shade and glare control are the main goal.

Can zip screens keep out rain?

Yes. With a waterproof fabric and the edges locked into the side tracks, zip screens keep wind-driven rain out of a covered alfresco. Sunscreen mesh cuts sun and wind but is porous, so some water can come through in heavy rain.
